Born to a Presbyterian father and a Disciples of Christ mother, Laura grew up at Kings Highway Christian Church (KHCC) in Shreveport, LA, as a fourth-generation “Disciple.” Baptized at the age of 10, she was active in her youth group, serving as the State Youth Worship Chairman during 1989-1990. After graduating from Captain Shreve HS in Shreveport, Laura attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston before transferring to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, earning her BA in Communication Sciences & Disorders in 1994. Laura then returned home, & continued serving at KHCC in a variety of capacities from 1994 to 2000 (Young Adult Sunday School leader, Wedding Hostess, Deacon, and the choir, task force to assess the needs of the hearing and visually impaired, & was responsible for raising funds for wireless hearing devices and large-print hymnals). Laura moved to Baton Rouge, LA, in June of 2000, where she was an active member of First Christian Church-BR for 14 years, serving as Deacon, adult Sunday School teacher, women’s Bible study leader, and as a sponsor for a youth group. In 2009, Laura answered the call to ministry, and completed the required ministry classes. In March of 2012, Laura became a Commissioned Minister, and installed as Director of Children’s Education at FCC-BR two months later. In July of 2014, Laura was called to serve as Associate Minister of Broadmoor Christian Church in Shreveport, and two years later, called to serve as Associate Minister at First Christian Church in Bossier City. She also provides pulpit support at KHCC, and is a Regional Elder for the Great River Region, serving as the Regional Elder for central and southwest Louisiana. Laura is bi-vocational, serving as a full-time civil servant at LSU-S, and is a tremendously proud mother of one son, Jason, who works and serves at FCC-Bossier in various capacities.
